Minnesota has 12,292 lakes, 93,000 miles of rivers and streams and the most significant freshwater lake in the world. Larger than any other state 6 percent of Minnesota is covered with water. Minnesota has 90,000 miles of coastline which is more than California, Hawaii and Florida combined. For each six residents there is one boat for recreational purposes, again more than every other state.

There is more than 150 higher education institutions. Universities and technical colleges make up the choices of post secondary education in Minnesota. A lot of the state's population resides in Minneapolis and a majority of the state's colleges are situated there, too.

The Twin Cities campus of the public College of Minnesota (U of M) is the most important university within the state with more than 51,721 enrolled, which places it as the 4th-largest American campus by enrollment size. The U of M has 4 different campuses in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester.

With above 360,000 students enrolled, Minnesota's higher education institutions are teeming with intelligent, younger students. The highest degree earned in the state's higher education institutions was in business management, social sciences, psychology, biological and biomedical sciences, visual and performing arts, medical care and health sciences, English and literature, communications and journalism, and computer information sciences.
